LED TVs reduce your bill

This statement is to an extent true. You do save money by having an LED TV but it does not make you rich overall. Now before you misunderstand this statement, let me clarify.

The saving that you make is roughly about £3- £5 in a month on electricity. That is (lets say) £60 a year. That does seems a lot and you can certainly treat yourself to something decent. Some will also argue that, it will at the end reduce your carbon footprint; this statement is also correct and we are not against that at all. We are as you know, already in the business of reducing one’s carbon footprint by repairing faulty items and recycling old sets.

My opinion in this matter is that, LED TVs these days do come with the latest ‘bling blangs’ but are they durable? Do they last you that long? Whereas, the old Plasmas and LCDs, even though a slight ‘pushy’ on your pockets but we know that they lasted you almost a decade if not more. We are not saying that they never go faulty, but comparatively, they may go faulty after living twice the age of any LED TV.

We have seen customers wanting to repair their 15 year old Plasma TVs because they love the picture and I believe them. The picture quality on some plasmas is still outstanding. And these type of plasma TVs are still worth the repair because they can last another 10 – 15 years.

On the other hand, LED TVs these days (especially the lower end models) only tend to last maybe upto 5 years, and then they either have a screen fault or a backlight problem. Which may not be a cheap repair, and thus the customer decides to purchase a new one. So the overall saving that we made on the bills does not amount to anything. This also increases your carbon footprint and the overall saving you made cancels itself out.

BUT, obviously anyone wants to have the latest item in their house so they can enjoy the latest features. And even though you get different accessories to connect with your old TVs to make them a Smart TV, people tend to just throw their old devices in favour of new devices. We cannot blame them for that, rather blame the society we live in that have made this ‘activity’ a norm.

But that is enough from our side. Please check the links below from different websites on saving on your bills.
