If you have a Samsung model series D5520 or D5500 or D5000 (e.g. UE40D5520) then you will not like what is to be stated below.
These TVs when they came out were obviously very slick looking and had a very latest technology at that time. You had the option of using internet based apps on this model which was one of the attractive features of this set.
Unfortunately, we have recently experienced a serge in the repair of these models. The most common fault on these models is the TV starts to turn itself on and off. The TV restarts for no apparent reason and gets stuck in this loop. The fault is related to the NAND IC on the main board which would have gone faulty.
The easiest fix is to simply replace the Main board of the TV. But unfortunately, these Main board for these models are so expensive that it will not be worth the repair. The other option is to replace the NAND IC but this task is a bit time consuming and requires detailed workmanship. The drawback of replacing the NAND IC is that the TV will loose its Smart features i.e. You will not be able to use the Smart apps in the TV and your TV will simply work as a normal TV. We agree that this model number does not support that many Apps anyway so it would not matter, but there is another drawback.
We have replaced several NAND ICs on these models, but have observed most of them (about 75%) go faulty again within 6 to 12 months of the repair. Therefore, from experience we have learnt that these models would be Beyond economical repair for 2 reasons:
1- New Mai board cost will be too uneconomical to be quoted for.
2- The repair to the NAND IC is not sustainable.
So whenever a customer states this model number of their Samsung TV, we have started advising them that it will not be worth the repair. They might as well invest in a new TV instead.
